The Three of Cups card marks a time, where we find, or reconnect with a part, that complements the self. It is usually considered to be a general card of friendship and connection. On a deeper level it represents the connection to the cosmos and the higher self, or inner aspects.
The drop in the center gives us the idea, that the multiverse (or the whole self) is contained within. As we are part of the cosmos, our higher self is part of us. The phrase \u201ee pluribus unum\u201c, or \u201eone out of many\u201c comes to mind.
This can mean, that our current incarnation is only one of many personalities or egos which are present within ourselves. The conglomeration of inner aspects can be experienced, when we are able to return to the source or deep sea of Binah. Either by meditation or through other circumstances, our barriers and the illusion of separation must fall to recognize this aspect.
There is so much more within each one of us, then the conscious mind can grasp. A network may be found, from which we can access these hidden parts.
Only by sinking into the deep parts of the subconsciousness, we can gain access to the vast being that ever being is a part of. This is symbolized by the whale in the atomic structure, in the upper part of the card.
Behind the veil of confusion is one consciousness, which transcends the many personalities, aspects, incarnations, and egos that we all inherit.
This being, contained within, yet a unique intelligence can give us an idea, that we may be connected to all other consciousnesses, which just seem to be separated.
The expression of Binah through Briah suggests that this euphemism can\u2019t be comprehended on a mere intellectual level but must be discovered and felt within on an emotional layer.
Only then, the whale which is submerged can transcend its presence into the physical body and surface itself. The gate can\u2019t be found through rational reasoning.
It is through art, music, meditation or the practice of ritualistic work, which connects us and touches the emotional level. This spark can lead to enlightenment, from within.
However, there is free will and this path must be actively chosen to be worthy, to walk on it \u2013 passivity and gliding along just isn\u2019t enough to lift the veil.
Like a friend, these inner currents need attention and care to establish a working network.
If we are afraid of losing the part of the ego, that is required to let go and refuse to establish the connection to this mycelium-like net, which connects everything, the gate may close even more.
This would leave us on a solitary path, where we neither finds ourselves, nor a higher purpose.
Fortunately, even then, the chance will eventually present itself again in the next cycle that comes around.
